HSDS Happenings!All HSDS classes are every Sunday at the Melody Club. Click here to view our weekly class schedule. We offer lessons for beginner to advanced dancers. No partner necessary! Our weekly Sunday dance is 8:30-10:30pm following the lessons and is open to everyone! NEW beginner's lindy hop series (Lindy 1a) starts the first Sunday of every month at 7:30pm!!Back to top Performance Team Try-Outs Everyone is welcome to give it a go at our performance team try-outs Sunday October 9th, 5:30-6:30pm at the Melody Club. The B-team is officially transitioning to the PrepCats, a true feeder program for dancers who'd like to work towards becoming HepCats. As a member of the PrepCats, you'll learn new routines, improve your social dance and performance skills and work on solo and jam circle techniques! The PrepCats aren't looking for perfection (just yet) but you should have a good handle on the basics (swing-out, circle, charleston), dedication and an eagerness to learn and be a part of a team. The PrepCats will have performance opportunities within HSDS and out in the Houston community as ambassadors of HSDS and the swing community. Back to top Houston's Harvest Moon Ball is October 22nd!
Mark your calendars for Houston's Harvest Moon Ball a celebration to honor the spirit of dedicated dancers in Houston! This year's Harvest Moon Ball will be held October 22nd, 2011. Houston's Harvest Moon Ball is a collaboration of two dance groups HSDS and the Rice Social Dance Society. It's a night to wear your sharpest clothing and dance the night away with great live music, performances, just-for-fun dance competitions and more!
We are happy to announce that the Old School Swing Band will provide the live entertainment! Tickets are on sale now and are $15.50 online or $20 at the door. day FREE dance and beginner's lesson!! We offer a free beginner's lesson at 7pm followed by a super-fun dance from 8:30-10:30pm! No partner or previous dance experience necessary! We'll teach you the moves to get you out on the floor that night and have a great time!
Tis the season to break out the costumes for our costume contest! Great prizes include discounts on Lindyfest registration and HSDS classes! This year prizes will be given for originality and creativity!
Back to top Guys and Dolls This swing era musical will be the cat's meow at the Hobby Center this September 27th-Oct 9th. Guys and Dolls is about a group of gamblers, gangsters and gals in the seedy, after-hours underworld of the city that never sleeps. Featuring all new scenery and filled with hits like “Luck Be A Lady” and “Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat,” this show is one the whole family will enjoy – you can bet on it! We have a thriving dance scene with lindy hop, blues, balboa and shag. We have amazingly talented djs and even more talented musicians. We have a bunch of fun activities and sites to see.
 Austin, TX, Lonestar Championships - January 12-15th, 2012. Lone Star Championships is a competition weekend dedicated to social dancing with a party atmosphere. All of the contests are social dance competitions. No stress on your part, no need to prepare a routine, just come enjoy the weekend. Spontaneous, creative, amazing.
