Happy New Year!! We hope you danced away 2011 and welcomed in the new year! It's time to start chipping away at those New Year's resolutions. And if this year you resolved to learn to swing dance, congratulations, we're glad you picked HSDS as the best place to do that! If your resolution is to dance more, then great, we have a lot of opportunities to help you dance more, imporve your skills and have fun doing it!! Whatever the reason that brings you to HSDS, we're elated that you've found us and included dancing in your busy schedules! We hope to see you all out on the dance floor!!


All HSDS classes are every Sunday at the Melody Club. Click here to view our weekly class schedule. We offer lessons for beginner to advanced dancers. No partner necessary! Our weekly Sunday dance is 8:30-10:30pm following the lessons and is open to everyone! NEW beginner's lindy hop series  (Lindy 1a) starts the first Sunday of every month at 7:30pm!!

Lindyfest is on it's way! HSDS is proud to announce that Lindyfest will be held March 15th-18th, 2012! Registration is now open! Price points increase as more people get registered  so make sure to sign up as early as you can to get the best deal on this fantastic workshop!

Lindyfest is an intensive and fun lindy hop weekend workshop jammed packed with classes for all dance levels, soul sessions with living legends, hot performances and four endless nights of dancing. Lindyfest brings in hundreds of dancers from all across the globe to learn lindy hop from the masters and experience the excitement of Lindy Hop, all here in Houston.
 

 Austin, TX, Lonestar Championships - January 12-15th, 2012.
Lone Star Championships is a competition weekend dedicated to social dancing with a party atmosphere. All of the contests are social dance competitions. No stress on your part, no need to prepare a routine, just come enjoy the weekend. Spontaneous, creative, amazing.

Lonestar is really about the joy of dance and celebrating all levels of dancers. Competitions are a great way of focusing your energy on becomming a better dancer, and they're not just reserved for the elite or those who want to become professionals. At Lonestar, some of the most fun comps are the Newcommers, where you get to see or participate in the growth of new dancers. It's electric! So, focus your energy and take a leap into this great opportunity! If you're still not ready for competitions, that's ok too. There are plenty of classes and great dancers at the event to elevate your skills! No one ever became a great dancer by sitting on the couch. So, get out there and have some fun!

Local Houston dancers created two great sets of choreography for the Hawkeye Swing Festival in April. A total of seven submissions were online and open for voting with the winner receiving the opportunity to teach their unique choreography at the workshop. HSDS's own, Katiebeth Lee with her "Sinner's Strut" was the winning submission! You won't have to wait until April to l earn this fun dance though, Katiebeth will be bringing it to you every Sunday in January in the elective class at 7:30pm.

Heads up! San Antonio is hosting a workshop with Kevin St Laurent, Jo Hoffberg, Mike Roberts and Joanna Lucero on February 17-19th.
